What has been billed as the "celebrity wedding of the decade" took place on Friday when pop superstar Taylor Swift married Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Actor Adam Sandler, a friend of the couple, officiated the ceremony. The best man was Kelce's brother, Jason. Swift's brother, Austin, was her "man of honour", according to a media release from the singer's representatives. There were no bridesmaids or groomsmen at the ceremony.
The bride and groom wore looks designed by Christian Dior and Swift chose jewellery by Cartier, the statement added. No photos were released.
The wedding closed streets around Madison Square Garden, the home venue of NBA champions New York Knicks, and a digital screen outside the arena read “JUST&T MARRIED” after the couple tied the knot.
About 1,000 guests attended the ceremony, including celebrities such as model Gigi Hadid; actors Bradley Cooper, Jason Sudeikis and Hugh Grant; musicians Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez and Miranda Lambert; actress Zoe Kravitz; comedian Jimmy Fallon and designer Tommy Hilfiger.
Members of the public, including fans known as "Swifties", strained to catch a glimpse of the celebrities arriving at an event known as "America's royal wedding" amid the heavy security. One fan wore a pink-and-white friendship bracelet that bore the phrase "Team Bride", while another held a handmade sign that put a spin on a Swift lyric. "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight to MSG," it said.
Lights on the Empire State Building turned light blue on Friday evening, a nod to the adage that "something blue" at a wedding brings good luck, a social media account for the landmark said.
Workers spent days unloading food and scenery into the Manhattan arena for an event shrouded in secrecy. US media reported that the couple invited hundreds of people to celebrate at the start of a long holiday weekend when the US marks its 250th anniversary.
The couple said through a publicist on Thursday that they donated $26 million to charities in the city and elsewhere this week. Their love story began in 2023 when Kelce tried unsuccessfully to meet Swift backstage at one of her concerts, only to catch her attention by recounting his disappointment on a podcast.
As the relationship progressed, they appeared publicly together at her concerts, his Kansas City Chiefs games and on Saturday Night Live, leading to an August 2025 engagement announcement on Instagram included the message: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."
